The tomato is the edible, often red berry of the plant Solanum lycopersicum, commonly known as a tomato plant. The species originated in western South America and Central America.The Nahuatl (the language used by the Aztecs) word tomatl gave rise to the Spanish word tomate, from which the English word tomato derived.   • CULTIVATION

If you are starting tomatoes from seed, give the seedlings plenty of room to branch out. That means thinning the seedlings to one strong plant per cell or small pot. Snip the weaker, smaller seedlings in favor of the best grower. Crowded conditions inhibit their growth, which stresses them and leads to disease later.


It is also important to provide a lot of light as tomato seedlings need strong, direct light. And they love heat! They won’t really start to grow until both the soil and air temperatures remain warm. Additionally, tomato plants need to move and sway in the breeze to develop strong stems. That happens naturally outdoors, but if you start your seedlings inside, you need to provide some type of air circulation. Create a breeze by turning a fan on them for five to 10 minutes, twice a day. That small amount of time will make a big difference.

The are so many ways how to cook and use tomatoes! Make salsa, pasta sauce, tomato soup, juice, paste, fresh ketchup! So many ideas! You can also eat them in salads or have cherry tomatoes e as a snack. There are also different ways how to cook or store them- you can dry, can, freeze, grill, stuff them! And there is no line what you can make- make tomatoes into main dishes, appetizers or even desserts!
