📗A Bit of History: The Legend of Saint Valentine
Valentine’s Day is named after Saint Valentine, a Christian martyr from 3rd-century Rome. According to legend, he secretly performed marriages for couples after Emperor Claudius II banned them, believing single men made better soldiers. When his actions were discovered, Valentine was imprisoned and later executed.
Another part of the legend says that while imprisoned, Valentine befriended the daughter of his jailer. Before his death, he supposedly wrote her a farewell note signed “from your Valentine”, a phrase that many believe inspired the tradition of sending Valentine’s messages today.
Over time, Valentine became a symbol of love, loyalty, and compassion. In the 5th century, Pope Gelasius I declared Valentine’s Day on 14 February in honour of Saint Valentine. The celebration gradually evolved from a religious remembrance into the romantic holiday known around the world today—marked by cards, flowers, sweets, and heartfelt gestures of love.

🌍💕Celebrate Valentine’s Day Sustainably
Love goes beyond people—it also includes the food we eat, the gifts we give, and the planet we share. This Valentine’s Day, you can celebrate romance while caring for the environment by making thoughtful, sustainable choices that reduce waste and support eco-friendly living.
Even small swaps, like using leftover ingredients creatively, composting scraps, or choosing package-free treats, make a big impact. This Valentine’s Day, every thoughtful choice adds love—not only to your relationships but also to the world around you.
