Grandma Sita’s Secret Sauce

Our tribute

Grandma Sita - A Tribute to Rosita

Every story has a beginning, and ours started in the warm, welcoming kitchen of Rosita, Elena’s beloved grandmother from Vigo, Galicia. Grandma Sita is a heartfelt tribute to her — with “Sita” being the affectionate nickname that comes from Rosita.

Elena grew up by her grandmother’s side, learning to cook with seasonal ingredients, to value every bit of food, and to waste nothing. That simple yet powerful wisdom guides our journey today, celebrating all grandmothers who have filled every meal with love, care, and creativity — and still do.

our approach

A grannie on a mission

At Grandma Sita, we believe real change starts in everyday choices — especially in the kitchen. That’s why we focus on education, creativity, and community to tackle food waste where it begins.

Through community events, intergenerational workshops, and educational content, we help people rediscover the joy of cooking and eating together — while making small choices that lead to big change.

Inspired by traditional wisdom and guided by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), our approach blends the old and the new, showing that sustainable living can be simple, affordable, and delicious.

Our values

Sustainability starts at home

Education for Change

We raise awareness about food waste and sustainable gastronomy through hands-on workshops, talks, and storytelling — because knowledge is the first step to change.

Zero-Waste

We help people turn leftovers, scraps, and seasonal produce into something plant-based and low-waste, making it easy (and tasty!) to cook with care.

Generations Together

We bring people of all ages together to share traditions, skills, and stories — just like our grandmothers used to. It’s about building community and passing on food wisdom with love.

Progress with Purpose

Grandma Sita was born in Copenhagen, in the midst of the pandemic, out of the experience gained through the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs (EYE) exchange program and with the support of the Danish Institute for Sustainable Innovation & Entrepreneurship (DISIE).

The recognition of Grandma Sita as a finalist for Best Danish Food Startup in the GOe On The Road! – Copenhagen competition by the Basque Culinary Center (BCC), organised by the Danish Startup Group (DSG), reinforces our conviction that the greatest challenge in today’s kitchens is the lack of food knowledge: learning how to respect, preserve, and transform what we already have.

From Galicia, in northwest Spain, we continue to grow with commitment, driving local and global initiatives that foster a mindful, zero-waste food culture — one that respects the planet, revives food knowledge, and nurtures the future, one meal at a time.

Meet the Grandma Sita family

Behind Grandma Sita there’s not just a team, but a family of food lovers, eco-warriors, and curious minds who believe that every carrot peel and stale piece of bread has a second chance.

Think of us as your foodie friends who can’t stop experimenting in the kitchen, rescuing ingredients, and showing that sustainable gastronomy can be tasty, creative, and affordable for everyone.

At the end of the day, the Grandma Sita family isn’t just “us” — it’s everyone who joins the adventure: partners, volunteers, and friends like you who believe food is too precious to waste.
