Forgotten Giants: A Giant Treasure Hunt in Copenhagen

♻️🌿 Did you know there are giant trolls made from recycled wood hidden around the world? Created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, the Forgotten Giants are waiting to be discovered — but can you find them all?

👀😍 Hey there, fellow troll hunter! Grandma Sita went on a little adventure around Copenhagen, Denmark, and look what she found! These wonderful wooden giants were hiding in unexpected corners of nature, each one with its own name, character and story to tell.

🌳🍄🌲🌸 But there’s a little more to the story…

The original Forgotten Giants in Copenhagen tell the story of six giants who once lived peacefully in the forest. They watched as the little people slowly destroyed their future in the name of civilisation. So, the giants decided to help humankind remember that there is more to life than civilisation — and that all living beings are connected in soul and spirit. Their story is a gentle reminder to look beyond our everyday lives and reconnect with the forest, nature and one another. 🌿💚

📗💚 And when the giants built their tower, the little people came to visit them, hoping to see beyond the forest and nature — and to imagine a future where there would be room for everyone.

You can discover more about the original story and the six sculptures on Thomas Dambo’s website: 👉 The Six Forgotten Giants

🌳🍄🌲 And the treasure hunt continues! The Forgotten Giants are often hidden in mysterious locations, tucked away from the usual tourist trails and off the beaten track. They encourage children and adults alike to venture outdoors, explore new places and discover what can be created from materials that might otherwise be thrown away. Could this be the world’s biggest treasure hunt? 🗺️✨

♻️ From rubbish to treasure

Thomas Dambo is a Copenhagen-based artist, sculptor, recycler and storyteller. Through his work, he creates art and useful things from old and discarded materials, encouraging us to look at waste differently — not as rubbish, but as a resource for the future. And that is one of the things Grandma Sita loves most about his work. 💚♻️

Instead of sending old wood to the tip, Thomas gives it another life. Instead of placing art behind museum doors, he hides it among trees, hills and forgotten corners of the landscape. And instead of simply telling us to care for nature, he gives us a reason to go out and experience it for ourselves.

🌏 From Denmark to the world

After creating 99 wooden trolls across Denmark, Belgium, Germany, the USA, Puerto Rico and South Korea, Thomas Dambo has added the 100th troll to the series — creating an incredible global collection of recycled art. Each giant is different, but they all share the same playful spirit: explore, wonder, reuse and reconnect with nature.

👨‍🎨 Thomas Dambo’s art combines sculpture, recycling, storytelling and adventure, inspired by Scandinavian folklore and his belief that discarded materials can become something meaningful and beautiful. + info: thomasdambo.com

📗 Trash, Trolls, and Treasure Hunts

Thomas Dambo’s book Trash, Trolls, and Treasure Hunts features his first 100 troll sculptures and takes us behind the scenes of these extraordinary creations. So, next time you find yourself wandering through Copenhagen — or exploring somewhere completely unexpected — keep your eyes peeled. 👀🌿

You never know when a Forgotten Giant might be waiting around the next corner, quietly reminding us that there is more to life than concrete, buildings and civilisation. Maybe the real treasure isn’t finding the giant at all… Maybe it’s discovering a new way of looking at the world. 💚🌍

Happy troll hunting! 🧌♻️🌳
